April 1, 2008 - Security Advisory, Programmer Mode Role Modification
InterSystems has corrected a security issue that
allows granting of unauthorized roles.
This defect exists in all currently released
versions of Caché starting with Caché 5.1 and for
all versions of Ensemble. The defect exists on all platforms.
InterSystems believes the risk from this defect
is low. The unauthorized granting is only
possible from the programmer mode command line,
and most systems have already restricted
programmer mode access to trusted users.
The correction for this defect is identified as
STC1352 and is available from InterSystems as an Ad Hoc distribution.
This is an announcement mailing list for Cache'.

Celebrating 30 Years of Innovations

products with the goal of helping professional

InterSystems Innovator Award
In its tenth year, weve made some changes to the InterSystems Innovator
Awards program. Yes, the Innovator awards will still honor the creativity
and technical expertise of the innovative developers who use our technology...
And yes, the first-, second-, and third-place Innovator Awards will be
presented (accompanied by cash prizes) at DEVCON2008. But this year, the
finalists will also have their winning solutions profiled in a white paper
about the business benefits of building composite applications, which will
be printed in ComputerWorld magazine.
Theres another change. We no longer have separate categories for Caché and
Ensemble. All entries, regardless of the InterSystems product used in their
creation, will be judged together. Our aim is to celebrate innovation,
regardless of how it is achieved.
That judging will be done be a panel of industry experts, led by Bill
Laberis, a VP at ComputerWorld. Mr. Laberis will emcee the presentation of
the Innovator Awards, which will occur during DEVCON2008, March 30th - April
2nd in Orlando Florida.
The deadline for Innovator entries to arrive at our corporate offices in
Cambridge, Massachusetts is Monday, March 3rd, 2008.

January 7, 2007 - Incorrect Rollback of SET $BIT Operation
InterSystems has corrected several Caché &
Ensemble defects that, in rare instances, can
cause rollback of SET $BIT operations within transactions to corrupt data.
The use of the SET $BIT operation outside of
transactions is not subject to these defects.
These defects exist, to varying degrees, in all
currently released versions. Actual database
updates are performed correctly. Affected
entries in the database are only corrupted by
transaction rollback of the SET $BIT operation.
One defect results in the old data value of a SET
$BIT operation being incorrectly
journalled. This is only of concern when a
rollback is necessary since the old value to be restored is incorrect.
The second defect occurs if two transactions
affecting the same $BIT value are rolled back
concurrently. It is possible for the values to
be applied out of order resulting in an incorrect final value.
The corrections for these defects, identified as
HYY1359, SJ1831, SJ1929 and SJ2281 will all be
included in the upcoming 2008.1 Release. They
are also available from InterSystems WRC in an Ad Hoc distribution.

October 26, 2007 - Advisory: Solaris Defect Impacts Caché/Ensemble
Installation
InterSystems has discovered that a defect in Solaris 10 can potentially
cause serious damage to the file system containing the Caché/Ensemble files.
The defect is related to the implementation of chown/chmod.
This risk exists for all currently released distributions of Caché and
Ensemble when installed on Solaris 10. The risk exists for both SPARC and
x86 platforms.
Caché and Ensemble are at risk of triggering this Solaris defect only during
installation, specifically during execution of cinstall.
The damage done is that chown/chmod will traverse up to the root filesystem
changing ownership/permissions on all files. Please see the Solaris patch
documentation for more information. It has also been observed that this will
cause the Caché/Ensemble install process to take significantly longer to
complete due to the amount of time for chown/chmod to process all the files..
Corrections for this defect are available from Sun Microsystems:
Solaris 10 (SPARC):
Kernel level 118833-36 or later
Patch 125499-01
Solaris 10 (x86)
Kernel level 118855-36 or later
Patch 125500-01
InterSystems recommends that the appropriate Kernel and Patch be applied to
your system(s) before installing Caché or Ensemble.
It is also possible to work around this defect by replacing the default
Solaris version of chmod/chown with the GNU version.

Добрый день!
Через управление правами доступа. Портал управления системой - это
CSP-приложение /csp/sys/ (могу ошибаться - надо поискать в портале).
Общее описание системы управления безопасностью есть в материалах
Школы-2007.

July 18, 2007 - Security Alert: User passed parameter values via CSP could
be encoded by login page redirection logic
InterSystems has corrected a Cache' defect that can lead to data changes
on the server by a malicious user.
This defect exists in all currently released Cache' 2007.1.x versions
(2007.1.0.369.0 and 2007.1.1.420.0). Versions prior to Cache' 2007.1 are
not affected.
For security reasons, a detailed description on how to reproduce this
issue will not be provided.
Normal and intended operations of CSP applications are not affected.
Please note the System Management Portal in Cache' is a CSP-based
application and also vulnerable to this defect.
The correction for this defect, identified as MAK2116, is included in
upcoming Cache' and Ensemble releases. It is also available from
InterSystems in an Ad Hoc distribution or by applying this patch.

Cache' and Ensemble for Microsoft Windows Vista
Several months ago we announced our plans for Microsofts Windows Vista
operating system. In essence, our plan was to fully support Vista with
Cache' and Ensemble 2007.2 versions and to document some workarounds that
would enable customers to begin working with Cache' 2007.1 on Vista. What
we have learned in the ensuing months has caused us to change our plan to
the following:
We will produce a Cache' 2007.1.1 version that fully supports
Vista for new installations for Microsoft Vista Business and Microsoft
Vista Ultimate as a server platform, and all editions for Microsoft Vista
as a client platform. It will not support upgrades of prior Cache'
versions that were installed on prior Windows versions.
We plan to make a field test version of Cache' 2007.1.1 for Vista
available by Wednesday, June 13. Assuming that we get quick feedback from
at least a few test sites and that no major problems are found, we will
release 2007.1.1 two to three weeks later, i.e. in late June or early
July. If you would like to participate in evaluating the upcoming Cache'
2007.1.1 for Vista, please send contact information to Andreas
Dieckow (E-Mail Subject:Cache 2007.1.1 Vista
Field Test). Note that terminal server capabilities are not supported
with version 2007.1.1 for Vista.
We also plan to release an Ensemble 2007.1.x version with Vista
support in the near future.
We recognize that other issues will likely surface as Vista usage
grows and we will address these in 2007.2 and future versions. We will
also continue to investigate the Windows version upgrade issue.
The following features are not supported on Vista: DDP and LAT.
Microsoft Windows Vista is not supported with versions of Cache'
and Ensemble prior to 2007.1.

InterSystems has corrected a Cache' defect that can lead to run time
errors in instances with routines larger than 32k. It is strongly
recommended that the correction for this defect be installed as soon as
possible in any environment at risk for this defect.
This defect exists in Cache' 5.1 through 5.2.x and all Ensemble 4.0.x
distributions. The defect is present on all platforms and operating
systems.
Symptoms are unpredictable but can include process failure and Cache'
errors such as <CLASS DOES NOT EXIST>. The symptoms of this defect only
appear at execution time. No messages or errors will appear during
routine compilation.
Necessary conditions for this defect to be triggered are Cache' routine
buffers configured to greater than 32k and routines that compile to
greater than 32k object code size. Once these conditions are met the
symptoms may appear in any routine in the environment and are not limited
to only the routines larger than 32k.
The correction for this defect, identified as CDS948, is included in the
upcoming Cache' 2007.1 and Ensemble 2007 based releases. The correction
is also available from InterSystems in an Ad Hoc distribution.

InterSystems has corrected a Cache' defect that under rare conditions can
lead to missing and corrupt data in ECP (Enterprise Cache Protocol)
environments.
This defect exists in all currently released Cache' versions that support
ECP and for all platforms and operating systems.
The necessary condition to trigger this defect is a process running on an
ECP client referencing data on multiple ECP servers.
Please note that even when this condition exists in an environment the
likelihood of encountering this defect is low.
The correction for this defect, identified as GK589, is included in the
upcoming Cache 2007.1 release. It is also available from InterSystems in
an Ad Hoc distribution.

April 11, 2007 Advisory: Cache' and Ensemble on 64-bit Microsoft Windows
InterSystems has discovered an issue with Windows memory management that
has important implications with the larger Cache' buffer pools possible on
64-bit Windows platforms. The issue is that memory requirements on
Windows platforms are larger than on similarly configured UNIX Platforms.
Large buffer pools (i.e. large shared memory segments) require that each
Cache' or Ensemble process set aside a significant amount of private
memory for internal use by Windows (called Page Table Entries or PTEs).
On 64-bit Windows, where very large buffer pools can be defined, the
cumulative effect can be considerable. To ensure good performance
sufficient physical memory must be available - paging of the PTEs can lead
to very poor performance,
For example, a 16GB shared memory section will require 32MB per process of
Windows internal memory management tables. Thus 1000 processes will
require 32GB of memory just for page table entries.
InterSystems can assist with calculating memory requirements for customers
considering a 64-bit Windows platform.

Database Server
InterSystems Worldwide Response Center (WRC) has identified a defect which
can cause journal file corruption in a Cache' cluster when the Cache'
cluster acts as an ECP server to external ECP clients.
This defect is present in all currently released versions beginning with
5.1. Only Cache' concurrent cluster configurations on OpenVMS or Tru64
are at risk.
The corruption, if triggered, will occur during cluster failover when the
Cache' cluster master shuts down or crashes while ECP clients are
connected with open transactions on the cluster. The corruption will
occur in the new masters current journal file. As a result, transactions
requested to roll back may not roll back properly, and journal files may
not be usable for disaster recovery. Additionally, any shadow
destinations connected to the cluster as the source of shadowing may fail
or have incorrect data.
The correction to this problem is identified as HYY1291 and will be
included in the final release of Cache' 2007.1. It is also available in
an Ad Hoc distribution.

necessary conditions met, the problem occurs rarely and unpredictably.
The correction to this problem is identified as GK579 and will be included
in the final release of Cache' 2007.1. It is also available from the WRC
in an Ad Hoc distribution.

InterSystems Ensemble - достаточно сложный продукт, со своей методикой
использования. Что бы его посмотреть, надо или пройти обучение, или получить
его под конкретный интеграционный проект, пусть и исследовательский или
пилотный (оценочный). Если есть потребность в интеграционном решении -
обращайтесь.
